WHO WE ARE

The Alsalam Foundation is a non-profit organization established in 2016, to provide assistance and support to the community in the City of Mississauga. Throughout the past several years, the association has grown in steps, flourishing from its humble beginnings, to today’s vibrant organization, providing a full spectrum of wrap-around social services, ranging from newcomer integration, language studies, and chances of sponsorship, to employment assistance, skills and training, youth development and a myriad of other support services.

In recent years, the association’s activities have widened, involving both old and new, male and female, as well as the young and the most senior members of the community. Currently, there are many programs and activities, mainly social and cultural.

The Association is also very much connected with the youth and tries to provide students an opportunity to get connected with community members and develop their social networks. In addition, the association has continued its participation in the traditional outdoor annual festivals such as hosting BBQs. It has also established discussion forums and created a new WhatsApp account.

The Association envisions the presence of a vibrant and active community in the City of Mississauga and its surroundings. The aim is to ensure that community members are visible, productive and supportive of the missions and visions of the city, and their participation is widely recognized and appreciated by the people of Mississauga.

Alsalam Foundation memberships have been steadily increasing, as more and more people recognize the importance of having a strong community that aids in addressing their needs and concerns. We now have a registered of over 250 families as of January 2017.

In line with the Societies Act of Ontario, the Association has its own Bylaws and Internal Rules. The Association’s Executive Committee has seven members and the Board has five members including the president of the Association.

ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW

Its purpose is to provide a community service, servicing anyone from youth to seniors. The youth are given an opportunity to participate in a comprehensive program, have access to academic and counselling support that promotes the physical, educational and necessary life skills to empower them for leadership in their communities and success in their personal lives.

We do that by serving them with excellency in accordance with established guidelines. We welcome, support, and integrate new immigrants and refugees to build a vibrant community and a strong, inclusive Canada that values all newcomers.

Our Values
Rooted in human values and guided by the principle of welcoming the stranger in our midst, we believe that all newcomers should be warmly welcomed, well serviced, and connected to communities.
